A pair of French vintage lounge chairs attributed to Raphaël Raffel for Apelbaum, dating to the 1970s. Upholstered in camel leather with button-tufted velvet cushions in a soft neutral tone, the design combines generous comfort with the disciplined line associated with French modern seating of the period. The broad padded arms, high backs, and deep seats give the pair a substantial presence, while the polished chromed bases keep the overall silhouette light and balanced.
The contrast between the leather shell and the velvet cushions adds both depth and refinement, reinforcing the more relaxed, luxurious character of the design. Well suited to a living room, office, or reading area, the pair offers a strong combination of comfort, material richness, and period character. Carefully sourced in France and restored at our gallery in Rabat.
Best-known simply as Raphaël, Raphaël Raffel was a major French designer and decorator of the mid-20th century. Born in 1912, he established his practice in 1934 and became known for seating that combines generous comfort with a distinctly polished, modern French line.
