The highly collectible Java table lamp, designed circa 1953 by Mathieu Matégot, is one of the designer’s most recognisable lighting pieces. Its pleated and perforated painted sheet metal shade rests on fine tripod legs, creating a sculptural silhouette that feels both playful and architectural.
A visionary French designer of the mid twentieth century, Matégot was known for his innovative use of perforated metal and his ability to bring lightness, rhythm and movement into functional objects. The Java lamp captures this language beautifully, with an adjustable top and circular perforations that diffuse the light into a soft graphic glow.
