Paolo Buffa

Italian, 1903–1970

Paolo Buffa graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1927 and trained in the studio of Gio Ponti and Emilio Lancia. In 1928 he opened a practice with the architect Cassi Ramelli, designing villas, apartment buildings and furniture. From 1930 he also wrote for Ponti’s magazine Domus.

His furniture belongs to the neoclassical current of the Milanese school, with measured proportions, precise execution and fine materials. It was made mainly by the Milan workshop of Mario Quarti, by Serafino Arrighi and later by the workshop of Angelo Marelli. Buffa exhibited at the Triennale di Milano in the 1930s.

Where no documentation survives, we describe a piece as attributed to Buffa. Each piece shown below is restored with care for preservation at our atelier in Rabat.
