Ico Parisi

Italian, 1916–1996

Born in Palermo in 1916, Ico Parisi trained in construction and apprenticed in the studio of the rationalist architect Giuseppe Terragni. In 1948 he founded the studio La Ruota with his wife, the designer Luisa Aiani; their furniture is often credited to Ico and Luisa Parisi. The studio remained active until 1995.

Working from Como, they moved between architecture, interiors, furniture and objects, in contact with artists including Lucio Fontana, Bruno Munari and Fausto Melotti. In 1954 Parisi received a gold medal at the X Triennale di Milano for a living-room pavilion designed with Silvio Longhi and Luigi Antonietti. The couple’s archive is held by the Pinacoteca of Como.
