A rare and striking pair from one of postwar Germany's most celebrated furniture makers. These swivel chairs capture everything that made 1960s European design so enduringly desirable: sculptural bent plywood shells veneered in rich hardwood, upholstered in burnt orange wool-type fabric, and set on polished four-star chrome pedestal bases that give each piece a quietly futuristic stance.

The shell form is the centerpiece. A darkly grained dark hardwood veneer wraps and frames the upholstered seat and back pads like an embrace.

The chrome pedestal base creates a visual lightness that contrasts beautifully with the warmth of the wood and the vivid orange.

Elmar Flötotto, based in Detmold Germany, was known for his mastery of molded plywood and his ability to bring sculptural modernism into everyday interiors. His work shares a sensibility with the great Scandinavian and Italian masters of the era, though his output remains rarer on the international market, making pieces like these genuinely collectible.
